Summer in Winter
Despite touring this part of the world during winter, there’s something about Ben Howard’s music that evokes warmer climes – even when there is a personal darkness present in much of his work.
When I was working on the concepts for this poster, I would listen to Ben’s latest album – a typical approach for me, when designing something for a musician or band. In particular, the track ‘Moonraker’ became a bit of an earworm, and took this poster into a warmer, summer inspired direction.
There’s a dreamlike sound to this album, with a comforting warmth throughout. It’s the kind of album that you’d be pretty happy to be relaxing to, as you drift off by the side of a pool. Within the poster’s artwork, I really wanted to capture some of those feelings. Not intentionally ignoring the existence of New Zealand on these tour dates, there was something about that Aussie gold and green that just worked for the overall look and feel of the design.
